Needs Assessment

At the end of the 2009-2010 school year I gave the entire staff a needs interest survey. This needs assessment helped me understand the variety of needs at my school as well as their understanding of what is out there in regards to technology. Unfortunately I was given time with my staff outside of the computer lab during a staff meeting and was worried if I gave everyone an online version after a meeting they wouldn't all respond so I needed to tally the results by paper and pencil.

I used the results to guide my internship as well as my principals recommendations to create my project proposal I knew that to meet the needs of the teachers I would need to host mini sessions on interactive websites and Smart board and offer one one one assistance based on their request as well as whole staff development sessions on technologies such as web 2.0 and telecollaborative projects.

Planning/ Teaching with Technology Request Form

Based off individual or team requests made online or a paper/pencil version in my mail box, I was able to work with others based on their needs. Permanent subs are available in the building so that I could get covered when assisting them. As per principal suggestion, I could also model a lesson using technology for a teacher's class.

One particular lesson was with a second grade teacher who was hesitant in integrating her Smartboard and document camera in lesson. I was familiar with the second grade curriculum and taught a language arts block. In the lesson I found a Smart board game that she could tweak to sort words by vowel sound. Then I lead a making words activity using the document camera to model how to manipulate letters to create new words. The teacher saw how engaged the students were and how to begin using these technologies in lessons. Next I discussed their unit and found a video online to sum up their reading unit on kindness. Students answered questions about the video in partners and I lead a class discussion. I showed her that technology doesn't need to be incorporated everywhere and to consider if it helps a lesson or can be done a more effective way.

UMBC Intern Needs Assessment/ Workshop

For my internship I knew that I wanted to work with the UMBC interns who had no required courses with the college for the integration of technology. I sent an interest survey through Google to see what they needed most. From the survey, I saw that they had varying levels for using the Smart board so I conducted a workshop at which they could come up and play with the Smart board or take time to create a lesson in Smart notebook with my assistance on the side. I also compiled links to interactive websites with pre created lessons that they could use.

Artifact 4
End of the Year Final Evaluation

During the course of my internship I used Google Forms to evaluate and better understand how teachers felt the sessions went. I also included questions such as what else I could do to help them. Teachers had an option to include their names in the evaluations if I need to complete a follow up with them and assist them based on their requests. Teachers would complete these evaluations which were linked to my professional development wiki page. I was able to make informed decisions to support the teachers and in return support their students. Below is the end of the year evaluation which shows that there was an improvement of using technology in lessons. However, not all teachers are using the technology consistently so my role as an e-coach for the 2011-2012 school year will benefit.

TF-I.B

Demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.

Artifact 1
E-Coach

As my role of Anne Arundel County's e-coach I get experience to stay current with emerging technologies as well as working with other teachers and the specialist on what works best for our county and the Maryland State Curriculum. In the fall and the spring I attended the e-coach days to which I learned more about web 2.0 technologies, multimedia, and other current technologies. Below is the information about the program as well as my certificate from both workshops.

Florida Technology Matrix Evaluation

As an e-coach I was given a wonderful opportunity to evaluate the Florida Center of Instructional Technology's Matrix. The matrix is a fantastic tool to show the spectrum of technology integration through videos and lessons. I was exposed to this resource towards the end of the year and look forward to using it with my staff as I countinue my role of e-coach. Through this experience I was able to evaluate the effectiveness of modeling technology integration strategies through videos. Below is my evaluation:

Personal Blog

Through my blog I share with my staff that I take interest in what latest technologies are around. I am subscribed to Tech & Learning magazine and find great resources on a blog called http://edutecher.net/.
